Matt Sherratt

Matt Sherratt

In Matt’s artistic practice, space, time, material, and attention are vital elements. He engages in a meditative approach to creativity, allowing himself to be fully present and focused during the process. By attending to the 'nothingness,’ he permits ‘something’ to emerge, connecting with profound generative energies. Just as the Universe encompasses intricate forms and realms of dark matter, the creations that unfold in his studio construct worlds within worlds.

Matt meticulously refines his forms to achieve a balance between aesthetic surface tension and framed spaces. The balance of negative and positive shapes is essential; he designs lines that invite the eye to traverse between surface and space, edge and void.

Matthew Sherratt studied at Loughborough College of Art & Design, graduating in 1992 with a First Class BA Hons Degree in Ceramics. He later earned an MA in Ceramics & Glass from the Royal College of Art in 2004. His career includes a residency at the National Portrait Gallery and South Hill Park in Bracknell, as well as over a decade of teaching at City Lit College in Covent Garden, London. Recently, he relocated from North Wales to Cheshire, where he is now settled.
