Emily Floyd

Emily Floyd’s Mangrove Poem is a two-part installation for Brisbane’s Mangrove Walk, part of the Queens Wharf development. Curated by a panel of local and international experts including Chris Saines, Avril Quaill, Alison Kubler and UAP’s Natasha Smith, Emily’s artwork was fabricated and installed by UAP.

In her signature style, Emily Floyd has embraced the use of vibrant colour and dynamic form to create a place of civic optimism and shelter, where ideas and ecology are illuminated. Visitors to the Mangrove Walk are first greeted by an iconic mangrove dweller, the Sacred Kingfisher in tones of glossy blue. At the second walkway platform, visitors encounter a social seating installation created from the words ‘ALL SHAPE’, a poetic fragment drawn from the Australian poet and historic Queensland figure Judith Wright’s 1963 poem ‘Five Senses’, continuing the artist’s interest in creating alternative civic monuments, transforming literary fragments into spaces of discovery and enquiry.
